Inviting God Into Your Wellness Journey

One of the most life changing decisions you will ever make is inviting God into your wellness journey. It changes everything. And I do not say that lightly.

I come to you as someone who has written prescriptions, ordered numerous lab tests and scans, and stood at hospital bedsides as a physician. I also speak to you as someone who has laid in the same beds as my patients, battled seizures and long Covid, walked through multiple surgeries, and wondered if my body would ever recover. Therefore, hear me when I say that of all of the choices I made on the path to wellbeing, inviting God into my wellness journey was the most crucial step. The Word of God, my training, experience and testing have given me a framework that facilitates healing and partnership with God in the most trying of seasons.

In this blog post, I want to help you see what happens when caring for your body, mind, and spirit becomes an act of worship and partnership with God. We will look at the biblical foundation, the scientific evidence, and the practical steps involved in inviting God into your wellness journey. The goal is to have the tools to begin to walk out a faith centered, evidence backed wellness journey that truly fits you and your God given purpose.

Where do you begin?

Inviting God into your wellness journey begins with a shift in identity and motivation. You are a person, created in God’s image, loved by God and purchased at a great price. As someone made in His image, you were created with 3 parts; the mind, the body and the spirit.

“May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
1 Thessalonians 5:23

Your body is the physical house that carries you through this world.

Your soul includes your mind, will, and emotions.

Your spirit is the part of you that connects with God.

These are not separate compartments. They are deeply intertwined. What happens in one part of you invariably affects the others.

“Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you… You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.”
1 Corinthians 6:19–20

“Offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God. This is your true and proper worship.”
Romans 12:1

Wellness, from a biblical perspective, is the state of attaining wholeness in all 3 areas. Whole person health is about partnering with God to steward what he gave us. It is learning to care for the body, renew the mind, and nourish the spirit as acts of love toward God, others, and ourselves.

What the Research Says?

Research suggests that religious involvement is associated with better health outcomes and lower mortality. Large studies have found that frequent attendance at religious services is linked with a significantly lower risk of all cause, cardiovascular, and cancer mortality, even after adjusting for factors like age and baseline health.

In other words, people who integrate faith into their lives, including community worship, often live longer and healthier. This displays the preserving power of a Christ-centered life.

When you invite God into things like your nutrition, movement, sleep, and stress management , you transform them from self improvement projects into holistic self care practices. The meaning becomes so much deeper. Taking care of yourself transforms into a reasonable act of service for God.

With God involved, our motivation broadens and we desire to become fit for purpose.

  • Fit to serve the calling God has placed on your life.

  • Fit to love your family with energy and presence.

  • Fit to steward the gifts and assignments He has entrusted to you.

As an individual with a purpose and an assignment from God you have inherent value. If the value of a thing is determined by how much someone is willing to pay for it, let it be known that Christ paid for you with His life.

This means that how we choose to live our lives is not trivial. It is connected to souls, to ministries and legacies. There is purpose and people waiting on the new you that exists on the other side of your healing.

Inviting God into your wellness journey is an act of agreement with His desire to see you whole, useful, and alive in purpose.

You do not have to be “ready” in the way the world defines readiness. You do not need to have a perfect plan. You simply need a willingness to take one step with God.

Your Next (First) Step

That step might be:

  • Praying honestly, “Lord, I have tried to manage my health alone. I invite You into this.”

  • Asking God to highlight one mindset, one habit, or one relationship that He wants to address first.

  • Reaching out for support from a Christ centered community, counselor, or coach.

  • Educating yourself on holistic self care.

  • Opening your Bible and meditating on one healing promise every day for the next week.

Inviting God into your wellness journey is a real partnership in which the Creator of your body, the Shepherd of your soul, and the transformer of your spirit walks with you step by step.

My prayer is that as you surrender your health story to Him, you will begin to taste the freedom, resilience, and purpose that come when Christ stands at the center of your wellness journey and that your transformation will become a testimony that invites others to do the same.
